Lions, tigers and pintucks, Oh my!

My weekend project this week was a 70's pin-tucked tie waist dress out
of light weight chambray, seen here sans hem.  (Simplicity 7448) It doesn't
fit into my Palette Challenge perfectly, but a blue was on my inspiration board.
OK, so the dress, let's just say, yet another one that looks good on the form,
not so hot on me. I think I would make the waist band lower,
possibly lower the neckline, and maybe make those sleeves
a bit smaller next time. I had a great time using a vintage pattern though,
and I love the fabric. Maybe I can get more to use on a future project.
In the meantime this 70's dress is becoming a UFO!

Sweet P

Just wanted to mention that Sweet P Vaughn from Project Runway Season 4
has dresses in Forever 21! We worked together way back in the day at
bebe studio. She is just as talented, funny and nice in real life as she was on the show.
Check out her blog here.

New Silhouette

I think instead of using the dirndle silhouette on the tea dress I am leaning toword
a baby doll version. How cute are these dresses? The first pic is from
blooming leopold, vintage and handmade clothing. The below picture is Jenny Lewis
from Coachella on Refinery 29.

Sew and Learn

I used a fairly inexpensive cotton for my Tea Dress (pictured above),
thinking it may end up just being a muslin, and sure enough...
not loving the look on me.  Good to know I probably won't be using the
basic dirndl pattern that it was made from in the Built by Wendy Book.
I think that I am more exited by some  of the more modern style patterns
in the mix.  I had better get to work on those!

I am realizing by doing the color palette challenge that
I have a huge love for peach. Here is my Pinterest color palette.
Happy Friday!!

Spring Summer 2012 Palette Challenge

I am exited to announce my participation in the Colette Patterns Spring Summer
Palette Challenge. The challenge consists of 8 weeks of sewing as many pieces
as you can from a palette and inspiration board created from fabric colors missing
from your wardrobe or otherwise already in your fabric stash. Colette Patterns
has some great vintage inspired home sewing patterns!
I think this will kick start me into a sewing frenzy!

Sew Because

I would like to send a shout out to the two clever ladies who inspired me to start
sewing again, Tilly (above) and Oona.(below) Both have wonderful, insightful blogs
(please click on their names for links), about their sewing adventures, and both make
clothing that is rather fashionable. Pictured here they are sporting clothes that
they made and wore while participating in a week long OWOP, a week of
wearing clothes made from the same pattern. I love this idea!! Thanks for all
of the comments yesterday, and thank you Tilly and Oona for the inspiration.

Easter Dress

I did some sewing on this long weekend, making a dress to wear on Easter,
Built by Wendy pattern 3964. The neck bias binding was a bit of a challenge.
Glad to be sewing again!
